Scott Singer was elected without opposition to a three-year term on the Boca Raton City Council in 2014. Council Member Singer also serves as the Chairman of the Community Redevelopment Agency.

Professional Experience

A South Florida native, Singer is a small business owner and practices law in Boca Raton. His work as an attorney has included a wide range of matters for companies of all sizes, individuals, families, and municipalities. Singer has earned the AV Preeminent® rating from Martindale-Hubbell, its highest possible rating for both ethical standards and legal ability, in three different practice areas. Scott is also active in his family’s commercial real estate business. He is a member of the State Bars of Florida and New York and admitted to practice before a number of federal courts.

Education

Singer graduated cum laude from Harvard University with a bachelor’s degree in government. He received his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, where he also served as a legal intern to the Chief Judge of the United States Tax Court and was a staff member and published note author of the law journal, The Tax Lawyer. Before attending law school, Scott served as a business strategy consultant to several major companies.

City Council Priorities

Council Member Singer’s priorities include increasing economic development efforts to attract outstanding companies and workforce talent, improving the customer-service experience for citizens and businesses in their dealings with city government, and developing long-term strategies to ensure Boca Raton continues to progress as a world-class city.

Singer has worked to increase transparency and accessibility of city government, by introducing laws to expand notices to residents on land-use issues and to ease the requirements for starting home-based businesses. Singer also sponsored the Ethics Disclosure Resolution, which was adopted, that now provides more information to the public regarding potential conflicts and ethical issues for city board appointments.  Recently, Singer began holding the first series of regular town hall meetings by a council member in many years.

Scott cares deeply about enhancing the quality of life for Boca Raton residents. He has worked to preserve the look of Boca Raton by introducing and gaining support for an ordinance to limit excessive signs from city medians and green space. Having lived on a barrier island for more than 20 years, Scott is sensitive to the concerns of residents who live east of the Intracoastal.

Committees

Council Member Singer serves on the State Attorney’s Sober Homes Task Force, the Growth Management and Economic Affairs Legislative Policy Committee of the Florida League of Cities, and the It’s the Economy Task Force of the Palm Beach County League of Cities. He is also the city’s alternate delegate to the Palm Beach County League of Cities.
